One little 'f' may make all the difference here...

Dobby off ground, have you never played that? You're 'on' and have to dob someone else, tag, touch , wahtever, but you can't dob them whilst they are off the ground.
To stop people just staying off ground you can count them down for 10 and they have to move. Also you can't dob your butcher, ie you can't get the person who got you in the first place.
Never played ? . mispent childhood obviously.. :bah:

Tig or tag we used to call it. The safe place was called the Den, but similar in that you could only stay there for 10 seconds.

what the hell are you talking about!!? butcher, dobby etc.. crazy talk! Also, how do you stay off the ground for 10 seconds?? There's no way I could stay off the ground for even 2 seconds. 1 second if I'm lucky!

Oh right, we called it something completely differen't can't remember what.

I used to like 40/40 in - there was a post and you had to count to 40 and then people would run off and hide and then they have to touch the post without you touching the post and saying their position "40/40 out i see tom behind the fat girl" etc.

This thread brings back memories of a game we would play when I was in the Explorer Scouts (shut up, girls went to it and the guys in charge didn't give a shit about uniforms or the religious bullshit).
Involved 2 teams in a wooded area at night. The offence team would go into the woods and a minute later the the defence were let loose. The offence had to get to the safe zone without being tagged by the defence and only 2 people from defence were allowed to hang about near the zone.
Its fun times if you don't mind a little bit of violence.

Ha, we used to call it 52 bonkers  You'd count to 52, shout "52 bonkers here I come" then go seek them out, if they got back to the 'Bonker' before you, then you were 'on' again. Anyone you caught hiding would have to sit at the 'bonker' until that game finished, and they would shout out hints as to where you were to the others, sneaky feckers.

Lung: :haha:

hehe, yup. under the same car/van each time, thinking you'd forget they always go there. Usually because they're the fat kid and can't run very far, so dive under the nearest hiding spot. And you'd pretend not to see them and walk around the other side and scare the shit out of them screaming in behind their head :D

We had mass games of 'semis' at primary school. Stop it you dirty minded bastards!

You'd have a couple of people in the middle of the court and pretty much the rest of the school in the semi circles either end. You had to get from one semi to the other without getting tagged, if you did you joined the taggers in the middle. So in the end you had half the school in the middle and a couple of people trying to get through them all.

The teachers banned it pretty much every dinner time due to injuries

Sounds like Red Rover, where you'd run at the opposing team and try break the chain, by jumping, kicking, flying head first at them. If you failed you joined their team if you broke through you got to steal one of them. It'd end up one person vs everyone else who'd just make a mental dash towards them and fling at them for dear life. many, many broken heads, legs, arms came from playing that on the street.

We called the first game "Sharks" (I think, can't remember if it's the same game, but near enough) and that second game was called "British Bulldog" or just "Bulldogs" for short. Great game!

Wouldn't surprise me if you weren't even allowed to play that one anymore.

Yeah some did call it British Bulldogs, that's right.

Back then every kid on the street between 6 and 16 played it. there was always games going on and you could just join in. These days, on my mother's street, there's 0 life, none of the kids seem to gang together for games.
